OKARA, Dec 30: After the closure of the office of House Building Finance Cooperation in the city, the authorities have closed the branch of Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) Bank.
People from all walks of life, including traders and social organizations, on Tuesday strongly protested against the closure of SME Bank branch.
It is learnt that the branch was earning Rs5 million profit annually and its recovery rate was among the best of financial institutions in the Punjab.
The office of HBFC was shifted to Sahiwal from Okara about two years ago for the reasons best known to the authorities.
People demanded that the offices of HBFC and SME Bank should be reopened.
INJURED: A policeman was injured during a scuffle over the issue of overtaking on the Okara-Deepalpur Road.
According to a report, PSF activist Rao Abdul Khaliq, his friends Saqib, Hasan Khan, Akhtar Muhammad and head constable Ilyas were on their way when they went into an argument with Dr Shahid Rasheed and his driver Ahmad Ali over ‘wrong overtaking.’
Later, they thrashed the doctor and his driver. Ahmed Ali, the doctor’s driver, reportedly opened fire in self-defence.
Ilyas sustained critical injuries and was referred to Lahore.
Rao Abdul Khaliq said that Ilyas was not in his car and sustained injuries when he tried to get hold of Ahmad Ali.
