SUKKUR, Dec 30: The National Coordination Committee of District Public Safety Commissions has resolved to strengthen the DPSCs to resolve people’s problems, especially those related with the police.

A meeting of the committee was held at circuit house here on Tuesday.

Later, speaking at a press conference, committee chairman Hafiz Ahsan Ahmad Khokhar informed that in three provinces excepting Sindh, the DPSCs had been set up in most of the districts and they were performing their work in a smooth and systematic way.

He lamented that the institution of the DPSC could not take a good start in most of the districts in Sindh where they were even facing the lack of infrastructure and office.

He deplored that most of the Sindh DPSCs were working without required funds and they were unable to provide required relief to the people.

He said that the National Reconstruction Bureau had recently released Rs9 million for the DPSCs of Sindh and each of the district would receive Rs600,000.

He said that he had received complaints from a number of places in Sindh that the provincial government had not provided facilities to the DPSCs, which would be brought in the knowledge of the NRB chief.

Mr Khokhar said that a national convention of DPSC chairmen would be held in Islamabad in January which would be addressed by President Gen Pervez Musharraf. He said that the convention would finalize recommendations to improve the DPSCs’ working, which would be presented to the president.

He said that the DPSCs were aimed at strengthening the district government system to bring an end to the hegemony of bureaucracy.
