Ayaz grabs hat trick

By Our Sports Reporter

ISLAMABAD, Dec 29: Ayaz Khan scored a fine hat trick as Faisal Club won the Islamabad Inter-club hockey tournament by beating Margalla Club 4-3 at the Aabpara Ground.

Faisal were 1-0 up at half-time through an Ayaz goal who put in another two after the break to enhance his side’s lead and complete his hat trick. Margalla pulled two goals back through a brace from Kashif.

Abdus Sami Faisal then made the score 4-2 for Faisal with a penalty corner strike while Margalla reduced the margin courtesy of Yasir.

The tournament was organized by the Islamabad Hockey Association (IHA) whose president Shafaat Ali Baghdadi, a former International umpire, said that more such events will be staged in future to revive this dying sport.

Meanwhile, Brig. Arif Mahmud Siddiqui, head of the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) assured the organisers on the occasion that efforts would be made to have an astroturf installed at the Aabpara Hockey Ground. He also promised financial support to the IHA.
