KARACHI, Dec 29: A late order collapse saw PIA struggling to 208 for eight in their first innings against PTCL on the opening day of the Patron’s Trophy Pool ‘A’ match at National Stadium on Monday.
The second new ball, taken after the national champions had reached 181 for four after being put in, dashed PIA’s hopes of reaching a respectable total.
The wrecker-in-chief was speedster Riaz Afridi. The youngster, playing in his maiden first-class season, captured three of the four wickets that fell in the final hour.
He got rid of opener Kamran Sajid for a patient 72 before dismissing Zahid Fazal (17) and Saqlain Mushtaq with successive deliveries to end the day with excellent figures of five for 63 in 28 overs.
Left-handed Kamran batted 12 minutes short of six hours and slammed seven boundaries during his 248-ball innings.
