Power supply to lower Sindh disrupted
MIRPURKHAS, Dec 29: The power supply to many parts of lower Sindh remained suspended for about eight hours on Monday due to maintenance work on 132kv high tension line between the Hala grid station and Mirpurkhas.
The affected areas included Mirpurkhas, Mirwah, Tando Jan Mohammad, Jhuddo, Naokot, Mithi, Diplo, Chhachhro, Islamkot, Nagarparkar, Chelhar, Umerkot, Sufi, Pithoro, Dhoronaro, Shadi Palli, Girhor, Samaro, Kunri, Kot Ghulam Mohammad and Jhilori.
Due to suspension of the power supply, water supply from the public health engineering department’s system was also suspended and operations in government and private hospitals were postponed.
Small industries remained closed, business activities too came to a halt and telecommunication facilities were also hit.
The generator at the PTCL customer services centre here is not working for a long time but the authorities have taken no notice of it.
Our Hyderabad Bureau adds: Parts of Hyderabad also remained without electricity on Monday.
The affected areas included Tilak Charhi, Hirabad, Liaquat Colony and Gul Centre.
MCCI: The president, Mirpurkhas Chamber of Commerce and Industries (MCCI), Abdul Sattar Chundija, and former president of the chamber, Abdul Khaliq Khan, have demanded that the federal government should reopen the Khokhrapar border without delay.
In a joint press statement issued on Monday, they said that the people of Sindh had been demanding the reopening of the border for several years but no government took notice of it.
However, the present government had taken the decision to reopen the border after normalization of ties with India to benefit the poor people, they said.
ATTACK CONDEMNED: Hundreds of workers and office bearers, including women, of the Pakistan Muslim League-Q labour wing, Mirpurkhas, took out a procession here on Monday to denounce attacks on President Gen Pervez Musharraf.
