KARACHI, Dec 29: A park in Malir is fast falling prey to landgrabbers as it has been left unattended by the authorities, and garbage is being dumped in it.

The Jinnah Park was conceived and developed by the former District Municipal Corporation East soon after its creation over a decade back.

It had swings for children and had grass on it. The pillared structure of the main entrance still have tiles, but it is now covered with handbills and posters.

It is located near the Women’s Commerce College on Begum Khursheed Road. Nearby is a private general hospital and a bus stand of Malir Liaquat Market.

The park, however, is nowadays filled with garbage, and the land mafia has recently constructed a wall in front of the main entrance.

Area people have expressed concern over the attitude of the town officials, and said since the induction of the new municipal setup, the garbage is being dumped by sanitary workers, and no arrangement has been made for the disposal of garbage.

The parks department, area people said, must have a record about the existence of a park, named after the Father of the Nation. He wondered that those who have no respect for the Quaid-i-Azam were occupying seats in government institutions.

The area people have demanded a probe into the matter.
