KARACHI: Corps commander’s services lauded

KARACHI, Dec 29: Commander Corps-5 Lt-Gen Tariq Waseem Ghazi has lauded performance of the Sindh police in establishing peace in the province despite limited resources.

He was speaking at the ‘Bara Khana’ hosted in his honour by Sindh police at a farewell ceremony at Garden Police Headquarters on Monday.

Gen Ghazi acknowledged that Sindh Police had put in valuable efforts notwithstanding gun-running, drug trafficking, terrorism, sectarian killing and the fall out of international developments.

He said that during his 33-month stay in the province, he drew the conclusion that Sindh Police could be put into any test and they were eligible to meet any assigned responsibility.

The commander stressed the need for continued efforts for further improvement.

On the occasion, Gen Ghazi paid rich tributes to those officers and jawans who laid down their lives in the discharge of their duties.

Speaking on the occasion, Adviser on Home and Coordination, Aftab Shaikh, eulogized the services of the corps commander and said that dynamic leadership, day-to-day directives, suggestions and policies had greatly helped in the restoring normalcy in the province.

Earlier, provincial police chief Syed Kamal Shah recalled the situation in the years 2001 and 2002 when the province, particularly Karachi, was in the grip of worst ever chaos with sectarian terrorism being at its peak. The situation was contained successfully under the command of Gen Ghazi, he said.

He said that the police succeeded in arresting six gangs involved terrorism and another 113 members of belonging to 16 different gangs involved in sectarian killings. — APP
