Case against SI, 11 constables

BAHAWALPUR, Dec 28: Civil Lines police on Sunday registered a case against 12 policemen, including an SI, for allegedly trespassing the house of a homeopath at Maqbool Colony.

The police said that SI Raja Zaman, ASI Jam Majid and 10 other policemen raided the homeopathic store of Dr Zahid Iqbal, the brother of complainant Tahir Mahmood, on Oct 3, 2003. The policemen also entered the house of Dr Iqbal and misbehaved with his wife. The policemen also took away with them four relatives of the complainant to the police station where his father and uncle were handcuffed.

The complainant further alleged that the police released them after taking a bribe of Rs20,000. Since the month of October, various officials have investigated the matter.

CELL PHONES: The PTCL will commission its U-phone mobile service in Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar and Rahim Yar Khan from April 1, 2004.

An assurance to this effect was held out by the U-Phone Mobile Service Managing Director to Bahawalpur Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Sheikh Abbas Raza.

The BCCI president in his letter to the PTCL MD had invited his attention towards the increasing demand of U-phone by the local business community and the general public.
