PSB honours Rehmat

ISLAMABAD, Dec 27: Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) arranged a special gathering on Saturday to honour Rehmat Khan for receiving the “best squash coach of Asia” award.

Asian Squash Federation (ASF) has bestowed this award on national squash coach Rehmat.

Director General of PSB, Brig. Arif Mehmud Siddiqui, was the chief guest at the function and presented the memento shield to Rehmat who had also coached record 10-times British Open champion, Jahangir Khan, in the 80s.

Also present on the occasion were the UK-bound Pakistan junior squash players, on the eve of their departure for the British Open Junior Championship.

The speakers eulogised the efforts of Rehmat in bringing the squash glory back to Pakistan, especially his crowning achievement of guiding the players to World Junior Squash Championship team title at Chennai (India) last year, the victory of Pakistanis in three of the four events at British Open junior and success in Asian Junior Championship.Brig. Arif Mahmud Siddiqui hoped that soon a Pakistani would fight his way amongst the world’s top-10 players under the stewardship of Rehmat.

Rehmat expressed his confidence that Pakistan was not short on talent and that “our players would again rule the squash world with a bit of proper coaching and hard work”.—APP
