Robbers kill driver

LAHORE, Dec 26: A driver was shot dead by robbers and a security guard injured critically in separate incidents in the city.

Hanif, driver of an army officer, was taking the latter’s family to relatives when their car was intercepted by two gunmen on the Raiwind Road, in Sattukatla. The driver put up resistance and the miscreants opened fire. He sustained serious injuries while the gangsters snatched gold jewellery from the family members.

The injured was rushed to a nearby hospital where he died. His body was removed to the mortuary.

A case has been registered with no arrest.

Meanwhile, a gang of 12 armed men burst into a factory owned by Mohammad Ilyas on Sundas Road, Raiwind, and loaded machinery worth Rs2 million onto a truck. They opened fire when one of the security guards put up resistance.

The injured guard, Ashraf (35), was admitted to hospital where his condition was stated to be critical.
