Benazir, Nawaz emphasize supremacy of Constitution
ISLAMABAD, Dec 24: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) chairperson Benazir Bhutto has said Quaid-i-Azam stood for constitutionalism, rule of law and respect for human rights.
The PPP chairperson, in a message on the birth anniversary of Quaid-i-Azam falling on Thursday, said Mr Jinnah always called for the supremacy of the Constitution and equality of all in a society governed by law and not by some individual’s whims.
It is a sad thought that on the Quaid’s birthday, his ideals of constitutionalism and a democratic and pluralistic society were at stake, she added.
Ms Bhutto urged the people to forge unity in their ranks to restore the inviolability and supremacy of the Constitution in the country.
The Quaid‘s birthday indeed is a day of rededication to the ideals and principles of the father of the nation, but it also is a day of introspection and reflection,” she said.
The PPP chairperson said unless supremacy of the Constitution was restored and everyone treated equally before the law, the future of the country would be exposed to internal and external threats.
NAWAZ SHARIF’S MESSAGE: PML-N Quaid Mohammad Nawaz Sharif has said for the fourth time in Pakistan’s history, a small group of generals has been trying to deviate from the path that the father of the nation had chalked out to make Pakistan a truly sovereign Islamic country that could serve as a model for the world.
In his message on Quaid-i-Azam’s birth anniversary, Mr Sharif urged the nation to renew its struggle for putting Pakistan back on the track of democracy as envisaged by the father of the nation.
He alleged that the military regime had damaged the country’s vital interests to the extent that even the independence and sovereignty of the nation was in great peril.
The PML-N Quaid accused that the government had jeopardized Pakistan’s nuclear capability to the extent that foreign powers could any time demand permanent suspension of the nuclear programme.
He said it was time that the entire nation should rise to defend the country’s fundamental interests.
