KARACHI, Dec 24: Acute water shortage continues to persist in several parts of the city.
The hard-hit localities include a major portion of North Nazimabad’s block ‘N’, Federal B’ Area’s blocks 6 and 10, Kharadar, Bhimpura, Baghdadi’s D D Chaudhry Road, Mehmoodabad and different sectors of Orangi, Baldia and North Karachi.
Residents of North Nazimabad’s affected block complained that although they were deprived of water for the last 17 days, the KWSB’s officials concerned and the area Nazim had not yet taken measures to help restore the supply, despite a number of complaints lodged with them.
Similarly, residents of Federal B’ Area’s blocks 6 and 10 complained that water shortage had been persisting in their localities for the last four days.
Besides, councillors of the affected union councils of Orangi and Baldia townships said that although the duration of their water supply had been increased following the restoration of supply from the Hub dam source, they got the supply with a low pressure merely because a considerable quantity of water was being wasted from a number of leaking pipelines.
“We have repeatedly informed the KWSB’s officials concerned, including the chief engineer (bulk supply), about the locations of the leaking pipelines, but no measures had so far been taken to plug the leakages,” a councillor of Orangi Town’s UC-9, Aftab Ahmed, deplored.
Complaints of persisting water shortage have also been received from the residents of North Karachi’s sectors 11-C/1, 11-C/3 and 11-A. The residents of the affected localities demanded of that the city Nazim and the KWSB’s managing director direct the officials concerned to immediately restore the supply as they could not afford to buy private water tankers at exorbitant rates for such a long period.
ILLEGAL ACT: A main pipeline in front of Aladin Park, blocked by some anti-social elements, has been cleared.
According to a spokesperson of the town, some anti-social elements had stuffed the pipeline with sack and cloth for supplying water to the park through a suction pump.
Gulshan Town’s Nazim, Abdul Wahab, who supervised the pipeline’s cleaning work, said that all those responsible for the act would be dealt with sternly.
