KARACHI: Exhibition begins at St Joseph’s


KARACHI, Dec 23: The two-day annual science exhibition and posters competition of St. Joseph’s Government College for Women began on Tuesday.

Sindh Education Minister Irfanullah Marwat was the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony.

As many as 70 projects in botany, chemistry, information technology, physics, zoology, and psychology were presented by the intermediate science students of the institution. More than 50 posters were also put on display on this very occasion.

In his address, the minister appreciated the efforts put in by the participants and also praised their abilities as well as the talents. He emphasized that the success of the students should be attributed to the diligence and dedication of the faculty.

Mr Marwat also lauded the role of the principal of the institution, Dr Tanveer Anjum, for her contributions in making the college one of the best educational institutions in the metropolis.

The welcome address was presented by Dr Tanveer Anjum. She highlighted some of the problems that had been faced by the colleges, particularly the shortage of teaching staff, on which the minister held out an assurance that the problem would be solved by the next month.

The inaugural session was also attended by the District Coordination Officer Mir Hussain Ali, Chairman Board of Intermediate Education Prof Iftikhar Zaidi, Executive District Officer Education Rais Alvi and Prof Haroon Rashid.

The first prize in the science exhibition was given to a student, who had designed the model of a dam. The second prize was given to another student on the computer operated car.

In the poster competition, the first prize was given to the student, who depicted the oil slick at the Clifton Beach. The second prize was given to the student, who made a poster on noise pollution.

The judges panel consisted of Prof Munir Mehdi, Prof Nighat Siddiqui, Dr Shahana Urooj Kazmi, Prof Zarina Tufail, Safrad Kazmi and Prof Sabiha Ahmed.

The exhibition will be opened for school and college students on Dec 24 from 10am to 1pm. —APP
