7 Afghan soldiers die in three incidents

By Our Special Correspondent

KABUL, Dec 21: Eight Afghan soldiers were killed and six others wounded in three separate incidents in Afghanistan on Sunday, Afghan government officials in the two areas bordering Pakistan said.

In the first incident, in Spin Boldak, the border with Pakistan, unidentified gunmen attacked a military borderpost killing five Afghan soldiers and wounding three others.

“This certainly appears to be the handiwork of the Taliban,” Khan Muhammad, commander of the second military division, told local journalists.

Two Afghan soldiers were killed and two wounded in Gardo Serai in the southern Khost province, local military commander Khyal Baz said.

They were killed when their vehicle hit a remote-controlled explosive device, he said. The Afghan soldiers were operating along with US troops in the area, he said. The official blamed the Taliban for the incident.

In Jalalabad, a bomb went off in the busy in the central Talashai Chown, killing one man and wounding another. The blast shattered window panes and caused panic among the people.

The incident occurred just when the constitutional loya jirga was debating a draft constitution in Kabul.
