LAHORE, Dec 21: Malik Hamid Ali Noon’s English filly, Kowalska, put up an amazing display to lift the Khyber Cup run over 1400m during the Lahore Winter Meeting on Sunday.
The daughter of English Sire, Grand Lodge out-of-Time Limit, Kowalska breezed past her eight rivals in the straight to win in a decisive fashion and provide a second successive win to her owner, trainer and jockey.
Brilliantly ridden by Shahid Rehman the filly beat Moment To Moment by four-and-a-quarter lengths. Amazing finished third six lengths further behind while exhausted Snow Drop finished fourth.
Trained by Haji Fazal Hadi, the filly clocked one minute 27 1/5 seconds over the distance.
The victory of Kowalska capped a marvellous double for jockey Shahid Rehman, who had earlier cruised to victory on short-priced, The Reporter, owned by Abdul Sattar Khan. The colt is trained by A. B. Malik.
A race later, rank outsider bay filly, Miracle, produced a performance of high calibre to land Nur-ud-Din Muhammad Jehangir Cup run over 1600 metres under a confident ride from jockey Javed Choudhry.
The filly from Loup Solitaire out-of-Lexington Star, came from last position to the first to beat front-running Millennium Count by half-a-length, a few strides short of winning post.
Royal Falcon finished third a length further behind while Think Thank completed the frame, a distance away. In all, only seven ran for the feature event after the last-minute withdrawal of Aegean Daisy.
Miracle is owned by Zaheer Aslam and trained by I. Nawab.
Trainer I. Nawab had a successful afternoon when he sent out three winners. His winner included 70 to 1000 favourite Canopy, long shot Miracle and 5 to 2 Lucky Dawn ridden by his jockey son Shahzad Iqbal. Canopy and Miracle also gave owner Zaheer Aslam a lucrative double.
