Ashar’s heroics in vain

KARACHI, Dec 21: A splendid century by PTCL’s Ashar Zaidi failed to thwart Bangladesh ‘A’ from scoring an 18-run win in the Patron’s Cup Pool ‘A’ match at National Stadium on Sunday.

Ashar, who faced 133 deliveries and hit nine fours and two sixes, was last out for 109 as his team made 200 in 48.4 overs after set a target of 219.

In fact, PTCL were 147 for nine in the 40th over. But Ashar found a reliable partner in Yasin Bari, who helped him add 53 for the final wicket.

Test duo of Hannan Sarkar (81 off 96 balls, eight fours and one six) and Mohammad Ashraful (51 off 72 balls, two fours) were the main run-getters for Bangladesh as they mustered 218 all out in 48.1 overs.
