KARACHI, Dec 21: The former chief of Jamaat-i-Islami Bangladesh, Prof Ghulam Azam, has said that Islamic banking system has been working so successfully in Bangladesh that other banks are compelled to open Islamic counters in their branches.
Prof Azam was speaking at the bi-annual gathering of the party members at Idara Noor-i-Haq on Sunday. He said that the party had contested for 30 seats of the parliament in the elections of Bangladesh on the platform of BNP alliance and won 17 seats with only three members of 10 other religious parties.
Earlier, speaking at a reception hosted by Prof Ghafoor, Prof Azam said that their government and people were in favour of promoting trade ties with Pakistan. He said that they wanted to see stable relations between the two countries. For this purpose, he called for exchange of traders between the countries.
