KARACHI: Adhocism in KU affairs criticized

KARACHI, Dec 21: The Karachi University Teachers’ Society has expressed concern over the prevailing adhocism in the campus affairs and demanded of Governor Ishratul Ibad, who is also the university chancellor, to take appropriate measures to improve the situation.

In a press statement, KUTS Secretary Sarwar Nasim said in most of the administrative positions, including the director finance, controller of examination, deputy and assistant controllers of examination, chief engineer, registrar and deputy registrar, public relations officer, budget officer, purchase officer, BCC&T director, secretary to vice-chancellor and others were filled through adhoc arrangement or additional charges.

The situation, he said, had led to lack of continuity and a situation of uncertainty.

Sarwar Nasim called for steps to be taken for regular appointments against all these positions. He said that the process of selection boards initiated through press ads of 1999 should be completed. Similarly, the matter of promotion in grade 21 had also been pending since long that must be looked into, he added.

He pointed out that seven out of eight posts of grade 21 were vacant, which was creating unrest among senior teachers of the alma mater.

The KUTS Secretary said that the university administration had been delaying the payment of leave encashment to teachers despite office order issued by the competent authority.

He demanded that leave encashment should be given to the university teachers immediately, as it had been already approved by the KU Senate in 1999.—PPI
