LAHORE, Dec 19: Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi will lay the foundation stone of the first housing colony for government employees at Mohlanwal on Saturday.

As many as 1,650 houses will be built on 1,230 kanals already acquired for the purpose.

The government intends to provide houses to all employees upon their retirement in all cities of the province. Land for such colonies is being provided by the government whereas the price of the houses would be realized through monthly deductions from salaries of the employees.

The project is being supervised by the Punjab Government Employees Housing Foundation.

Under the scheme, every employee will be given three options to select a city where he will be given a house after retirement. Each employee will be given a flat or a single-storey house according to his grade.

Those in BS-1 to 7 will get a five-marla house, in BS-8 to 16 a seven-marla house, in BS-17 and 18 a 10-marla house and in BS-19 to 21 a one-kanal house.

Around 237 acres have also been acquired on Sattiana Road, Faisalabad, and 200 acres at Lohi Bheer, Rawalpindi, for establishing such colonies there.
