BAHAWALPUR, Dec 19: At least 8,000 deserving families will be provided 16,000 flour bags monthly at subsidized rates of Rs170 per 20kg in the Bahawalpur district under the ‘Chief Minister Cheap Atta Scheme’.

This was stated by District Coordinating Officer Imran Ahmed, who will be the administrator of the scheme, here on Friday.

Finalizing the arrangements, the DCO said the distribution of flour bags among the deserving families would start from Dec 25.

Highlighting the salient features of the scheme and the merit of ‘mustahkeen’, the DCO said that families comprising minimum six members or more with income less than Rs4,000 per month would be eligible for registration under this scheme.

He said that lists of the deserving families were being prepared. He said his office would issue flour coupons to mustahkeen who would purchase flour bags on subsidized rates from the prescribed sales points all over the district.

PROTEST CAMP: In pursuance of the ARD call, members of the local PPP (Parliamentarians) on Friday set up a protest camp at Chowk Fowara against the wrong policies of the government.

A large number of PPP workers and leaders, including PPP federal council member Khan Muhammad Hussain Azad and former PPP candidate for provincial assembly Tatheerul Hassan, also joined the camp. Banners highlighting wrong policies of the government were also displayed at the camp.

The participants vowed to continue their struggle for the restoration of true democracy.

TWO FEARED DEAD: Two labourers were feared dead when a wall of the under-construction well collapsed on them in the suburbs of Sadiq Colony here on Friday.

Police sources said that the abandoned well of Muhammad Baksh was being reconstructed when its wall fell on two labourers. Heavy machinery was deployed to retrieve the labourers for which efforts were in progress at the time of filing of this story.

KILLED: Three unidentified armed men allegedly shot dead a man and injured his brother seriously at Basti Kallar Wahi near Ahmedpur East on Friday.

The motive behind the incident could not be ascertained.

Nowshehra Jadid police have registered a case against the absconding accused.
