NEW DELHI, Dec 18: Activists of a Hindu right-wing party dug up part of the the pitch to protest against India hosting Pakistan for a veterans’ cricket series, an offical said on Thursday.
Chetan Chauhan, former Test opener and chief of the Indian veterans cricket board, said the incident happened in the northern tourist city of Agra on Wednesday night, but the three-game one-day series would still go ahead.
“They dug up some of the pitch but the main playing surface has not been affected,” he said.
Chauhan said security has been tightened at match venues for the series which starts on Friday.
India and Pakistan have resumed bilateral cricketing ties after a three-year ban by the Indian government over political tensions.
The national team is scheduled to tour Pakistan in March next year for their first full series in 14 years.—Reuters
