KARACHI, Dec 18: Sher Mohammad, vying for the spoils in the jockeys championship table, moved into the lead when he rode home a brace of winners at the Karachi Winter Gymkhana Meeting held on Wednesday at the Karachi Racecourse.

Credited with 22 winners and lying second, just one behind the leader M. Barani when the meeting began, Sher caught up with Barani when he rode home Falcon, after the ride gifted to him replacing Arshad in the saddle in the third race and went on to take the lead when he rode a splendid race astride Sarazan in the sixth event.

Barani lying second with 23 winners returned empty on Wednesday finishing fourth partnering Lex Luger in the second race and third astride Grey Boy in the fifth.

Tariq Mehmood third in the table with 21 winners also failed to have a winner, finishing second on Rakha Poshi, after the bay colt was beaten by Falcon.

Shahzad has 20 winners to his credit, followed by M. Nasir 19. Shahzad did not have a mount on Wednesday, but M. Nasir was fourth on Gold Tip and third, riding Ring Master in the concluding event.

The first race on the afternoon’s programme was bagged by Captain Asif Saleem’s bay horse Reliable piloted by Sohail Ahmed, upsetting the favourite Bang Man with Naveed in the saddle.

Last Love ridden by M. Amjad, beat top weight Lucky Lover in the next event and Falcon raced to victory ahead of Rakha Poshi and Choti Moti in the third.

Silver City presented owner-trainer Talib Hussain with a victory in the fourth event, presenting riding boy Naveed with is 17th winner of the season.

In the following event, War Lord won a good race, preventing fancied Lovely Concept from registering his second victory on the trot.

Your Pleasure ridden smartly by Imamdin, stole the limelight in the last race, sprinting in from behind to collar front runners Thousand Up, Al Jarrar and Ring Master, to beat Nawab by one and half lengths.

The next race meeting is scheduled for Christmas Day.
