By Our Correspondent

GUJRANWALA, Dec 18: The electronic media team of the National Reconstruction Bureau on Thursday reviewed the construction work of several ongoing development schemes in different parts of the district.

District Nazim Fayyaz Ahmad Chattha briefed the newsmen on the development of these projects, saying around 500 medium and 75 major development projects would be completed during the current fiscal year with an expenditure of Rs165 million.

He said a committee, comprising the officials of the local bodies’ departments and union council Nazims, were monitoring the construction to make sure that the contractors were using quality material.

The Nazim also said Rs8 million had been allocated for the construction of Rachna Engineering College, Jora village, Rs8.5 million for Naushera Virkan civil hospital and Rs6.5 million for Nullah Pulkhu in Wazirabad.

Naushera Virkan and Wazirabad tehsil Nazims also gave briefing to the NRB media team.

PROTEST: The grain market commission agents criticized police for not arresting the robbers, who had plundered cash and gold ornaments worth Rs1 million from the house of their leader at Model Town two days ago.

Speaking at a news conference on Thursday, the commission agents gave a three-day deadline to police to arrest the suspects. Otherwise, they said, they would come to roads to mark their protest.

Armed men had taken away cash, jewellery and mobile phone set of Muhammad Khalid.

ARREST: Wahando police claimed on Thursday to have arrested a criminal and his three accomplices during a raid here.

On a tip-off, a police team raided an outhouse and arrested Akram and his men — Ishaq, Ayub and Riasat.

District Police Officer Saud Aziz said the suspects had killed dozens of people of Gorala village. They had also kidnapped a milkman of the village and demanded Rs200,000 ransom from his family some time ago.
