KARACHI: Nazim lauds voluntary college teachers


KARACHI, Dec 18: City Nazim Naimatullah Khan on Thursday, speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the first Govt Degree College in Gadap Town’s Union Council-7, near Yousuf Goth, Surjani Town, constructed at a cost of Rs20 million, appealed to the local industrialists and philanthropists to donate for promotion of literacy in the city.

The construction of the college was started in 1995, but owing to some reasons the college got completed in June 2003, and the classes started in the current academic session.

Speaking at the inauguration, city Nazim praised the services of voluntary teachers and said the society should encourage those, who stepped forward to impart knowledge to the youth, without any monetary gains.

“The students should respect their teachers, who impart knowledge to them and those who teach voluntarily, they should be encouraged and followed by others,” he said, adding that promotion of literacy be among top most priorities.

Acting town Nazim, Gadap, Abdul Sattar Jokhio, advisor to city Nazim on Education, Naseem Siddiqui, EDO, Prof Raees Alvi, DO Colleges, Prof Haroon Rasheed, Principal, Prof Raziuddin, councillors, teachers and notables of the area also attended the meeting.

City Nazim said his government was providing equal educational facilities in rural and slum areas of the city, which was evident from the fact that during the last two and a half years, 20 new colleges were established in the city.

“Three of colleges set up by city government were established in Gadap Town”, he said, and announced to allocate Rs1 million for the newly established college from his discretionary fund for provision of furniture, equipment at labs and other basic teaching facilities.—PPI
