Large cache of drugs, explosives seized

By Our Staff Correspondent

QUETTA, Dec 17: The Frontier Corps personnel have seized a large cache of drugs, ammunition and explosive material from the border area in two raids, officials said on Wednesday.

The troops of Pishin Scouts, a wing of the Frontier Corps, foiled an attempt to smuggle 500kg of explosives into Afghanistan, and arrested three men.

The security troops intercepted a Kandahar-bound truck at Shela Bagh check post. The truck was coming from Sargodha and carrying construction material belonging to an Indian company, Hasnain Cotex.

On thorough search, the officers seized 500kg of explosives hidden under the construction material.

The truck carrying the explosives was impounded and the driver and two other men were arrested. They were identified as Sardar Ayub, Mohammad Jamil and Mohammad Sarfaraz.

In an other raid, the personnel of the Pishin Scouts acting on a tip-off moved into the Dolangi area of Qila Abdullah district on Tuesday night and seized 958kg of hashish from an abandoned house.

Nine klashnikoves, several hand grenades and thousands of live rounds of various calibre were also seized.

An official of the Pishin Scouts told this reporter that the hashish was smuggled into the country from Afghanistan.
