Karachi, Dec 17: Top seed Aqeel Khan will face second seed Nomi Qamar in the final of the men’s singles of National Hard Court tennis championship after scoring easy victories in the semifinals played on Wednesday at Karachi Gymkhana.
Aqeel downed former Davis Cupper Rashid Malik after the latter retired due to an injury with the former having won the first set 6-1 and leading 2-1 in the second.
Nomi also was hardly troubled in his semifinal clash against Jaleel Khan and won in straight sets 6-3, 6-2.
Uunseeded Ibrahim Umer from Hyderabad created the biggest upset by beating second seed Nasir Mushtaq to lift the Under-13 title in straight sets.
Ibrahim faced no difficulty in beating his seeded opponent as he won the first set by 6-0 and took the second also 6-1.
Aamena Hamid outclassed Sana Bhaghat in the ladies semifinals in straight sets to set up a date in the final against Marium Rahim who was too strong for Sehr Khawaja. Both won in straight sets.
In the boys Under-17 semifinal Adnan Khan beat Tanvir Ashiq by 6-3 and 7-5 and will face Wasif Cheema in the final who crushed Danish Ahmed 6-0, 6-1.
