DPOs criticized for holding Jirgas: Sanghar District Council session
By Our Correspondent
SANGHAR, Dec 17: Members of the district council have strongly protested against the ‘private courts’ and Jirgas held by District Police Officer outside his office.
Speaking in the council session here on Wednesday, they said that DPO (operation) Dr Ameer Ahmed Shaikh and DPO (investigation) Ali Sher Jakhrani called the respectable people through police and make them wait for the entire day outside the office where the DPOs presided over the private courts.
They alleged that the DPOs imposed their verdicts on the people.
Qasim Faqeer Mahar, Nazim, Sibghatullah Shah Shaheed union council, Raja Shahid, Nazim Gujri UC, Atta Mohammad Chanhio, Nazim, Kamal Faqeer Hingoro U and others raised the issue and a majority of the members supported them.
Mr Mahar said that both of the DPOs are busy in running their ‘private courts’, in the shape of a Jirga.
He said that if anybody gave an application against anyone without adopting legal procedure, the respondent was called through police. He was ordered to obey whatever decision the DPO took and on refusal, was put behind the bars, alleged the Nazim.
Mr Mahar alleged that thieves, habitual complainers and persons of dubious character were taking advantage of the situation.
He alleged that the DPOs had no regard for elected representatives, Nazims and even courts.
He also alleged that Mr Shaikh was misusing the funds and did not pay for fuel and repair of police vehicles.
Naib Nazim Dr Mehmood Ahmed Rajput, who was presiding over the session, asked the members to bring the matter in writing, but the members insisted that the DPO should be present in the next session.
