HYDERABAD, Dec 17: The provincial government has declared the entire Thatta district as a calamity affected area which was lashed by heavy monsoon rains.
This was announced by the Sindh additional relief commission here on Tuesday.
TAX RECOVERY: Central excise, land customs and sales tax collector Rasheed Ahmed has said that the Hyderabad collectorate recovered Rs15.5 billion taxes last year.
He was speaking at a meeting of tax payers at the conference hall of the Hyderabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry here on Tuesday.
He said no tax payer was harassed for the recovery of excise duty.
He said proper audit notice should be given to the registered traders and industrialists under the sales tax and a copy of schedule should also be furnished to them.
Mr Ahmed said that the collectorate was given a target of 17 to 18 billion rupees for the current year, which he hoped would be achieved with the cooperation of the tax payers.
He said an amount of Rs60 to 70 million was refunded to the tax payers every month, which, he added was no mean a performance of the Hyderabad collectorate.
He sought the help of the chamber in checking smuggling.
Responding to a question about the setting up of a chemical laboratory at the Hyderabad dry port, the collector said that a big laboratory was not possible but a mini one would be certainly established.
He informed the tax payers that some changes had been made in the sales tax return form, which should be noted by the tax payers. He, however, said that the old tax return forms filed till Dec 15 would be accepted.
Earlier, the president of the chamber, Emad Siddiqui underlined the problems of the tax payers.
SU CONVOCATION: The University of Sindh has finalized arrangements for its convocation, scheduled to be held on Dec 20.
This has been announced by the university’s convocation coordinator.
Sindh Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad, who is also the chancellor of Sindh universities, will preside over the convocation.
Degrees and gold and silver medals recipients have been advised to appear for rehearsal on Dec 19.
