KARACHI, Dec 17: Senior politician Mairaj Muhammad Khan has said the humiliating treatment meted out to former Iraqi president Saddam Hussain by the US authorities in Iraq and release of the film displaying his medical examination is against all norms of civilized conduct and the rights of prisoners of war as stipulated in the Geneva Conventions.
“Saddam Hussain was an obstacle to US imperialism and Israel-Zionist policies in the region, and was a firm supporter of the Palestinian people,” he said in a statement on Wednesday.
He said the mistreatment of Saddam Hussain and his international media trial would not diminish his stature in the Muslim and Arab world, nor would it intimidate the resolve of Iraqi resistance.
Mr Mairaj said that Saddam’s trial must not take place under the auspices of the US-appointed puppet governing council of Iraq, but it should be in accordance with international law with all the facility for Saddam to defend himself.
“The US and the UK accuse Saddam Hussain of using chemical and biological weapons against the Kurds, but their governments were, at that time, his major supporters and provided him with these weapons,” he said.—PPI
