LAHORE, Dec 16: Punjab Government will spend Rs35 million for the up-gradation of the national hockey stadium to hold the Champions Trophy next year in December in a befitting manner.
This decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Punjab Minister for Sports, Naeem ullah Shahani, Secretary, Pakistan Hockey Federation, Brig (retd) Musarrat Ullah Khan, were also present on the occasion.
“The up-gradation task includes building an international standard sports hostel to accommodate foreign and local teams during a tournament,” said the Minister.
Shahani said the paper work of the entire project has been completed and the construction work will soon be started.
He said a supervisory committee has been formed to look after the project which is likely to be completed in ten months time period.
“Once the work is started efforts would be made to complete it within given time period and no delay will be tolerated as it must be completed before the Champions Trophy starts,” he said.
The up-gradation also includes beautification of the stadium by its surroundings a new look with tree planation and adopting other measures.—APP
