ISLAMABAD, Dec 16: The chairman of Alliance for the Restoration of Democracy (ARD) and president of People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPP), Makhdoom Amin Fahim, has deplored the attempt on the life of Gen Pervez Musharraf.

“We denounce the bomb attack on the convoy of President Gen Pervez Musharraf,” the ARD chief said while responding to a query from Dawn on Tuesday.

When asked for his reaction to the bomb blast, he said his party vehemently disagreed with the politics of Gen Musharraf, but “we will never condone extremism, we specially condemn terrorist attacks, no matter who the victim or intended victim was.”

Mr Fahim said the PPP had always condemned all kinds of terrorism and extremism and would continue to do so. He said extremism was a serious threat for the country.

Talking to Dawn, another PPP senator Farhatullah Khan Babar said this incident was the result of a non-democratic setup in the country. He said Gen Musharraf had made himself indispensable and had ruined all the institutions.

He also deplored the incident and said his party could not support any type of extremism and terrorism.

He said it was now time for Gen Musharraf to make the institutions strong and let the people rule the country.
