KARACHI, Dec 16: A rally of fishermen has urged the government to immediately announce its new fishing policy ensuring solution of chronic problems being faced by the community.

Organized by the Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum, the rally was led by PFF chairman Muhammad Ali Shah in front of Karachi Press Club on Tuesday afternoon. The rally was attended by the founder of the World Forum of Fisher People (WFFP), Thomas Kochery; members of a visiting delegation of the Pakistan-India People’s Forum for Peace and Democracy; and the activists of the Pakistan Fisherfolk Forum.

Addressing the rally, speakers urged the governments of Pakistan and India not to arrest the fishermen of each other’s country.

They also urged both the countries to declare the sea beyond 35 nautical miles of their respective coasts as free zone providing maximum opportunity of fishing to the poor fishermen.
