BADIN: Power breakdown sparks protest

By Our Correspondent

BADIN, Dec 16: Frequent power breakdowns here and other areas of the district have forced the suffering consumers to resort to agitation against the Hesco authorities.

Power supply remained suspended for 13 hours in Badin and other towns on Monday which forced the angry residents of Nindo Shehar to stage a protest rally.

Villagers in Tando Bago area also staged a protest rally against the Hesco when power supply was suspended again on Tuesday for 14 hours. The protesters also blocked the Talhar-Tando Bago road for an hour.

The protesters alleged that the Hesco officials were demanding illegal gratification to repair transformers which had gone out of order.

They further alleged that the officials were providing illegal connections to influential people which was the major cause of the failure of the transformers.

They termed inflated power bills a way of extortion.

Our Mirpurkhas correspon dent adds: Power supply to the city remained suspended for six hours on Monday, causing problems to residents and suspending water supply.

The Hesco officials said that the breakdown occurred due to some faults in 11KV line of city sub-division with the result that several areas remained without power supply. The areas included Police Line and its shopping centre, Civil Hospital, Shahi Bazaar and New Town.
