KARACHI, Dec 15: The transport company, operating Metro buses and coaches in the city under Karachi Public Transport Society, has proposed a revised tariff for approval to the governing body of the KPTS.

The operators of Metro buses have proposed an increase of Rs2 for each of three stages of journey for the non air-conditioned coaches. According to the proposed fares, for the distance up to 10km the fare would be increased from Rs5 to Rs7, from Rs10 to Rs12 for the distance up to 15km and from Rs13 to Rs15 for the distance up to 30km.

For the air-conditioned coaches, the company has proposed four stages for enhancement of fare. The existing tariff as approved by the authorities is Rs10 for 10km, Rs16 for distance up to 15km and Rs21 for the distance up to 30km. The company has proposed to charge Rs20 for 20km and Rs25 for the distance up to 30km.

The company has taken the plea that it had to sustain losses due to constant increase in fuel prices.

The general body meeting of KPTS, presided over by the KPTS chairman Raja Muhammad Abbas, after discussing the proposed fare tariff, constituted a committee headed by SSP Traffic East Nasir Yousufzai to submit its report on the issue.—PPI
