KARACHI: Infant dies in hut fire

KARACHI, Dec 15: An infant died in a fire that broke out in Gulshan-i-Iqbal on Monday.

Four huts setup at a vacant plot in Shanti Nagar, block-19, caught fire killing an infant, identified as one-and-a-half-year old Naveed.

Police said that at the time of the fire, the huts were occupied by children, as the elders were away for work in the nearby houses.

As the fire broke out, rest of the children managed to escape, but the youngest failed to save himself.

Meanwhile, the fire brigade rushed to the spot and controlled the fire.

The infant’s body was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

SUICIDES: Two people committed suicide in different parts of the city on Monday.

Police said that a teenager, Nadir Shah, shot himself with the pistol of his mother, a woman constable, in Orangi Town, late on Sunday night.

The police said that the mother and son had a dispute over some matter, when Nadir took out the pistol and shot himself.

He was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

In another incident, a young man, Amjad, committed suicide by hanging himself in Hijrat Colony on Monday.

Police said that victim’s body was found hanging in his room.

The body was shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for the post-mortem examination.

ACCIDENTS: Two persons died in separate road accident on Monday.

Police said that a car and a bus of route 2-D collided near Empress Market, Saddar, resulting in the death of Arshad, who was driving the car (AFG-676).

The victim was taken to the Civil Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

In another accident, an elderly woman died in an accident in Sharshah on Monday.

Police said that the woman, identified as Basra, 70, was crossing the road near a traffic signal when a lifter knocked her down.

She was shifted to the Civil Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
