HYDERABAD, Dec 15: The Makki Shah police here on Monday registered a case of cheating against Thatta District Nazim Shafqat Hussain Shirazi on the complaint of a lawyer.
Syed Mohammad Shoaib Shibli had submitted the application before the district police officer on Aug 19, demanding an inquiry into the matter.
Mr Shibli said the Nazim owed Rs1,242,000 to him. He said after hectic efforts, Mr Shirazi agreed to settle the matter and came to his office, located at the municipal shopping centre.
He said Mr Shirazi gave him a cheque of Rs1,242,000 on July 1 which was deposited in the district council branch of the Habib Bank Limited the next day. He said the cheque was then sent to the UBL, Sujawal branch, but it was bounced as there was no money in the account.
He said when he contacted the Nazim, he told him that he had no intention to return the money.
After an inquiry was conducted into the matter, the DPO ordered the registration of the case.
SUSPECT HELD: The Jamshoro police picked up a suspect, Gul Mohammad, son of Neik Mohammad, in a raid near Jamshoro railway crossing on Sunday and seized one rifle, one double barrel gun and two magazines.
Earlier, unidentified persons deprived Khadim Hussain Rajar, a truck driver, Rasheed Rajar, a journalist and Akbar of cash at gunpoint in Rajar Goth.
The police sought help of foot-trackers who led them to the residence of Ayub Brohi.
The police searched the house and recovered the stolen weapons.
The police said that Brohi and his accomplices fled while Mohammad was picked up.
However, a police source said that he was not involved in the incident and was detained only for interrogation.
TEST: Tests for the posts of male and female lecturers were conducted by College of Business Management in collaboration with the education officials here at the Public School on Sunday.
It was learnt that 5644 candidates had applied for 752 posts. Out of them 2152 were female while rest were male.
The candidates from Hyderabad, Badin, Mirpurkhas, Sanghar, Tharparkar, Thatta and Dadu districts appeared in the tests.
The test paper contained 115 questions with no negative marking and each question carried one mark.
