LARKANA, Dec 15: The People’s Party Parliamentarian-backed panel of advocates won the annual election of the District Bar Association here on Saturday.

Advocate Safdar Bhutto returned uncontested as president of the DBA for the year 2004.

PPP’s Mehar Ali Abro was elected vice-president by obtaining 117 votes against Imtiaz Ali Mugheri who got 103 votes.

Shahid Iqbal Siyal of the PPP secured 184 votes against Ghulam Rasool Abro who got 39 votes.

PPP’s Sher Mohammed Brohi got 142 votes for the post of library secretary while his challenger obtained 72 votes.

SHC: A ceremony to mark the establishment of the Sindh High Court, Larkana circuit, nine years ago was held here on Saturday.

Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar of the Supreme Court, Justice Zahid Kurban Alvi, Justice S. Ali Aslam Jafri, Justice Maqbool Baqar of the Sindh High Court and a large number of advocates participated in the function.

Speaking on the occasion, Larkana High Court Bar Association president Illahi Bakhsh Kehar said the bar was waiting for the grant announced by President Gen Parvez Musharraf.

Justice Abdul Hameed Dogar said the finance ministry and the law department would be approached for the release of the grant.
