Favourite Canopy romps home to easy victory

By Aftab Gilani

LAHORE, Dec 14: Fancied bay filly, Canopy, completed a hat trick when she romped home in the fourth race during the Lahore Winter Meeting at the Racecourse on Sunday.

The four-year-old filly from Yasoob Again out-of-Coconino, Canopy shot like a bullet right from the start, two lengths ahead of the field as the race started and was never in danger of even being approached by her 16 rivals.

She beat Lot Of Thanks by about four lengths. This was her third victory in a row after one on Nov 16 and another on Nov 23.

Owned by Zaheer Aslam, Canopy was ridden by jockey Javed Iqbal and trained by I. Nawab.

Jockeys Shahid Rehman and Aamar Parvez shared the day’s riding honours when they rode home three and two winners.

Shahid Rehman rode on Qandhar, Royal Class and Moment Of Love in the second, fifth and seventh race while Aamar Parvez won on Royal Performance and Black House in the third and sixth race, which incidentally was the feature event as well.
