ISLAMABAD, Dec 14: Nawaz Bhatti and Dr. Zafar won the top honours in the gross and net events respectively in an invitation golf competition organised on Sunday by Pakistan Tobacco Company (PTC) at the Islamabad Club.
The competition, cut down to nine holes because of bad weather, followed the main championship that began on Friday but was rained off on the second day Saturday. The winners hence were decided on the basis of first day’s scores.
In Sunday’s play, Nawaz carded 39 gross to emerge the winner with Hamayun Pervez a close second one stroke behind at 40. Dr. Zafar landed the net title with a net score of 31. Tariq Sadiq finished second with net 32, just one point behind the winner.
There was also a competition for hole-in-one for which the organizers had put up a prize money of Rs 1.5 million but no one was on target.
The “closest to pin” prize was won by Lt. Col Nasir while Nawaz Bhatti took the award for maximum pars with Hamayun Pervez taking home the prize for maximum birdies.
Abbas Mirza and PQ Mehdi with scores of 76 and 81 finished first and second resepectively to take honours in Seniors Gross category. Pervez Asghar and Tariq Kaleem with scores of 67 and 77 secured first and second place in net category.
The prizes were given away by Mohib Asad, Director General of FIA.
PTC’s Managing Director Jeremy Pike, while greeting the players pledged to continue supporting golf in future too.
