Ultralight aircraft show begins

LAHORE, Dec 14: The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) on Sunday organized an ultralight aircraft and aero-modelling show at its Lahore base, old airport, as a part of aviation week celebrations to mark 100 years of aviation.

Air Vice-Marshal Khalid Chaudhry accompanied by PAF Base Commander Air Commodore Nadeem Anjum inaugurated the show.

Some 20 ultralight aircraft as well as aircraft from the Lahore Flying Club participated in the show. The aircraft presented fly past, while three aero-modelling clubs presented aero-modelling by remote control aircraft.

As entry to the show was free, a large number of people, students from different schools and colleges and children visited the PAF Base and witnessed the light aircraft and aero-modelling show. Children particularly enjoyed the remote control aircraft’s aero-modelling.

Light aircraft Mushhaq was also scheduled to present aerobatics but did not perform due to poor weather conditions.

The PAF had also established different stalls and running documentaries to educate people about the progress made in the aviation industry during the last 100 years. It also organized a quiz show about aviation and PAF, and the winners were presented PAF calendars, aircraft models and ultralight aircraft joyrides. Some 50 winners were given free joyrides.

A musical programme was also organized to entertain people. Besides Jupiters’ performance, school and college students also presented national songs.

Talking to Dawn, Air Commodore Nadeem Anjum said the show had been organized as a part of aviation celebration week (Dec 14 to Dec 21) being held in Islamabad and Karachi as well. He 0said the basic objective of the show was to disseminate knowledge and create interest about the aviation industry.

At the Lahore PAF Base, he said a documentary film was also being shown to the visitors about the aviation history as well as the progress made during the last 56 years in Pakistan.

He said the PAF was also organizing shows and seminars besides running documentaries in Islamabad and Karachi to create people’s interest in the industry.
