‘Provinces to get equitable share in overseas jobs’

KARACHI, Dec 14: Labour, Manpower and Overseas Pakistanis Minister Abdus Sattar Laleka on Sunday said all the provinces would get an equitable share in overseas jobs under a transparent procedure and merit.

Talking to newsmen during his visit to an under-construction labour colony in Hub, he said his ministry planned to open recruitment offices in various areas to help the people avail opportunities of overseas employment. An office of the Overseas Employment Corporation had recently been set up in Quetta, he said.

Replying to a question, he said 69 per cent more job seekers had legally gone overseas during the current year than 2002 and the number had increased to 217,000 from 128,000.

He said more than 12,000 people were sent to Kuwait during the year. Kuwait had banned employment to people from the country in the past, he said.

The minister said the country’s image abroad had improved because of better policies and diplomacy of the government.

Malaysia had signed an agreement with the government for providing employment to Pakistanis, he said.

Replying to a question about the deportation of Pakistanis from various countries, he advised the people interested to seek jobs overseas to apply only when the government advertised the jobs through registered recruiting agents.

In case of complaint against a licensed recruiting agent, the department would initiate a strict legal action, he said.—APP
