LARKANA, Dec 14: Two men with signs of torture on their bodies have been admitted to the Chandka Medical College Hospital following orders of the Sindh High Court, Larkana circuit bench.

Those hospitalized were identified as Akhtar Ali Jakhar and Nasrullah Jakhar.

Akhtar Ali told this correspondent at the hospital’s casualty department here on Saturday that the Gambat police had arrested him in Larkana on Oct 27 while he was sitting at his shop.

He said Gambat DSP Imdad Hussain Solangi, SHO Moinuddain Kalwar and other policemen had not only been torturing him but also kept on shifting him from one place to another.

He said they hanged him upside down and beaten up him till he become unconscious. He said he had become impotent after the torture.

He said he and his cousin, Nasrullah, were arrested as suspects in the murder case of Ghulam Shabir Khuhro.

Showing his injuries, he said he wanted justice.

Mr Nasrullah also said the police had tortured him and arrested his eight relatives, Hakim Ali, Lal Bakhsh, Abdul Waheed, Rabnawaz, Abdul Hameed, Abdul Sattar, Ghulam Rasool and Azizullah, in false cases.

On being contacted, the medico-legal officer of the hospital confirmed the torture inflicted on Akhtar Ali and said during the examination he did not find a portion of his sensitive organ.

He said the matter had been referred to the head of the surgery department to examine and ascertain the report.

Akhtar Ali’s brother had filed a petition before the SHC, Larkana circuit bench, alleging that his brother had been kept in illegal confinement.

The court appointed Manzoor Phulpoto as the raid commissioner who recovered both the detainees from the Gambat police station and produced them before the court on Dec 10 where Justice Sarmad Jalal Osmani ordered to keep them at the hospital till further orders.

The judge was not satisfied with the explanation by the investigation officer regarding the arrests.

The case will come up for hearing on Dec 18.

Advocate Sarfraz Khan Jatoi represented the detainees.

INJURED: Larkana Sindh People’s Students Federation organizer Altaf Abbasi was injured in a clash between two groups of the SPSF here on Saturday.

Mr Abbasi said he was attacked with pistol butts by a group of SPSF activists, led by Bisharat Bhutto.

The matter was reported to the police.

After the attack, Malook Jagirani’s group took out a procession, condemning the incident and demanding action against the attackers.
