KARACHI: Suspect shot dead by police; three bodies found

KARACHI, Dec 14: Four people died in separate incidents in different parts of the city on Sunday.
Police killed a suspected in, what they claimed to be, an ‘encounter with three bandits’ in Quaidabad. They bandits, they said, were busy looting shopkeepers at gunpoint in Majeed Colony. Upon receiving information from some people in the area, two police officials rushed to the scene and challenged the outlaws. An exchange of fire ensued which resulted in the death of one of the bandits, identified later as Mustafa Qureshi, police claimed. His accomplices managed to escape, they added.
MURDERS: A 40-year-old man, Ghulam Fareed, was found dead near Wadera Ahmed Khan Rind Goth, in the limits of Manghopir police station. Police said that he was murdered several days back with a blunt weapon. The victim was working for a private contractor.
The body was shifted to the Civil Hospital for autopsy examination, police added.
In a similar incident, a three-day old body was found in a house in Sultanabad. Police identified the victim as Fazal Majeed, 50, who was hit in the head by unknown killer.
According to police, he lived in the house alone and his father and brother resided in another house in the same locality.
His body was shifted to the Civil Hospital for postmortem examination.
Police attributed his murder to some personal enmity.
Yet another body, of fisherman, was recovered from fishery. Body of the victim, Asghar Ali, 45, was spotted floating near the seashore in fishery area.
Initial investigation shows that the fisherman had gone on a fishing trip on Saturday, police said.
The body was shifted to the Civil Hospital for autopsy examination.
ACCIDENT: A woman died and her husband suffered minor injuries when their motorcycle was hit by a speeding truck in Jamshed Quarters area.
According to reports, Rehman Khan, elder brother of a former Test cricketer Rashid Khan, and his wife, Nishat Rehman, were hit by the vehicle on Friday night.
Ms Nishat Rehman was rushed to a hospital but succumbed to multiple injuries on Saturday during treatment. Mr Rehman is recovering from injuries.
Marriage of the couple’s eldest daughter was scheduled for Dec 19, family sources said.
