Govt urged to recover kidnapped volunteers
QUETTA, Dec 11: The Balochistan government and the police must urgently recover the four women volunteers of a Unicef- funded organization, who were kidnapped near Mastung four days ago, otherwise political parties will launch a protest campaign.
This was stated by president of the Hazara Democratic Party Jawad Isar while speaking at a press conference held here on Thursday.
He said that a meeting of all political parties was being held to discuss the issue and decide on the future course of action in this regard.
He said that the kidnappers were demanding a three-million- rupee ransom for the release of the kidnapped volunteers of the Sabahan organization.
Criticizing the kidnapping for ransom incident, he said that it was against tribal traditions, adding that women were not harmed or insulted despite the gravity of differences between any two tribes, adding that two of the women volunteers belonged to the Hazara tribe.
Accusing the government and the police of trying to hush up the matter, he said that they were making no serious effort regarding their recovery.
While denying to label it a tribal incident, Mr Isar said they reserved the right to protest against what he termed inhuman incident.
He said that initially the affected families had not been in favour of making the issue public as they had been assured by the police regarding the swift recovery of the kidnapped volunteers. They had contacted the party on Wednesday after the police failed to recover them despite the passage of five days.
Jawad Isar stressed the need for making concerted efforts to recover the kidnapped volunteers while expressing the hope that tribal leaders and political groups would play their due role to uphold tribal traditions.
