KARACHI: Uplift works in Faisal Town

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Dec 11: Shah Faisal Town administration will shortly provide a new sewerage system and thereafter stormwater drains of the town will be used exclusively for the drainage of rainwater.

Claiming that sewerage system either did not exist or was faulty prior to the creation of Shah Faisal Town administration, the Town Nazim, Mushtaq Ahmed, told newsmen that the town gave priority to the new sewerage system and 90 per cent success had been achieved after laying four main sewerage lines at a cost of Rs 440 million. At present, work for connecting these lines with different localities is under way.

He was briefing newsmen about the development works undertaken by the Town administration during last 28 months. Naib Nazim Islamullah and Town Municipal Officer Dr Syed Ali Zafar Zaidi were also present.

Claiming that a number of localities of the town were either deprived of water or were getting scant supply since long, he said the town had now made available water and has improved the supply system with the laying of pipelines of different diameters through its own resources. The localities which have now started getting water include Golden Town, Al-Falah, Naseerabad, Umar Khayyam Society, Natha Khan Goth’s sectors E, F and G, Kohati Mohalla, Gulfishan Society, Millat Town and its adjacent localities, he said.

In addition, the town spent Rs 16 million on repair of four pumps of Shah Faisal Colony’s pumping station for providing water to the town with a pressure.

Asked why the Town administration spent a huge amount on the provision of water and sewerage lines which was basically the responsibility of the KWSB, the Nazim replied that “we provided these basic amenities as the KWSB had expressed his helplessness on the plea of financial constraints”.

About the conditions of internal streets and other roads of the town, he said it had already spent 50.5m on repair of these roads while another major road of main bazaar of Shah Faisal Colony No 1 which was in a dilapidated condition has been reconstructed and work pertaining to its footpaths and curve- stone affixing was going on in the second phase.

Mentioning about another major road, starting from Millat Town to Malir-15, he said although this road was ruined and was inherited by the town, it has been repaired after improving its faulty sewerage system.

Referring to other major development works carried out by the town during last 28 months, he said these include construction of another road (from Malir 15 to Mustafabad); rectification of street lighting system of the town’s two major roads; cleaning of stormwater drains, construction of three new cause-ways underneath the railway lines to facilitate pedestrians.
