KARACHI: Chundrigar Road to be beautified


KARACHI, Dec 11: A high-level meeting at the Governor’s House on Thursday discussed measures for beautification of I.I. Chundrigar Road and other link roads and streets.

Presided over by the Sindh Governor, Dr Ishratul Ibad Khan, the meeting was attended, among others, by SBP governor Dr Ishrat Hussain, chief secretary Dr Muttawakil Kazi, principal secretary Brig Akhtar Zamin, acting Nazim Tariq Hasan, additional chief secretary local government Mohammed Saleem Khan, DCO Mir Hussain Ali MD KWSB, Brig Asif Ghazali, chief controller of KBCA, Brig A.S. Nasir, besides senior officials of railways, KPT, KESC and other departments.

The governor asked the DCO to submit a master plan within three weeks.

It was decided that the railways, KESC, Water Board, SSGC and the PTCL will inform about their future schemes for I.I. Chundrigar Road within 15 days so that no further changes may have to be taken later.

On the occasion, it was decided that a traffic management plan be prepared for I.I. Chundrigar Road, M.A. Jinnah Road and Maulvi Tamizuddin Khan Road (Queens Road) and carry out beautification and improvement work of I.I. Chundrigar Road in the light of the same.

The proposed traffic management plan will be prepared with the cooperation of the City Government’s Traffic Engineering Bureau and the Traffic Police.

Governor Ishratul Ibad said that this important business street of the country was the economic backbone of the country. He observed that its improvement and beautification and provision of facilities will have a positive impact on the country’s economic situation. He said this work should be carried out in phases. He stressed that urgent attention be paid on cleanliness, uplift of facades of buildings. He emphasised the need for project implementation through strong coordination between departments concerned.

The governor appreciated the personal interest being taken in this regard by the Governor of State Bank, Dr Ishrat Hussain.

He directed the DCO Karachi to submit a master plan for improvement of I.I. Chundrigar Road to the governor, State Bank for its effective implementation under his supervision.

On the occasion, Dr Ishrat Hussain said his interest was reflective of his perception that we should see the Mohallah in which we live in or the area.
