FAISALABAD, Dec 9: The students of the National Textile University on Tuesday protested against the increase in the number of seats and introduction of self-finance scheme.

They boycotted their classes and held a demonstration in front of dean’s offices. They chanted slogans against the university management for implementing ‘callous and anti-students policies’ to collect money.

They alleged that one of the prestigious educational institutions of the country had been converted into a profit-earning company by the men of All Pakistan Textile Mills Association.

They claimed that the university administration had increased the number of seats by 100 per cent and also allocated 150 seats for the self-finance scheme which was against the interests of the poor students.

They threatened to hold a demonstration in front of the main road of the area if the university administration failed to accept their demands.

Later, a delegation of students also met the dean who assured them that their demand would be presented before the board of directors of the university.

A heavy police contingent remained outside the campus during students’ protest.

STUDENTS’ CLASH: Three students were injured in a clash between two groups at the Government Degree College, Jaranwala, on Tuesday.

Tension had been prevailing on the campus for the last couple of weeks and members of both the groups had clashed a number of times.

On Tuesday, members of both the groups attacked one another with sticks and iron rods. As a result, Muzammal Ahmad, Shahid Naseer and Tauheed Kashif were injured.

Area police said that they had received applications from both the groups for the registration of cases. College administration and some elders of the town were trying to resolve the issue.

SUICIDE: A girl committed suicide by taking poison at Chak Jhumra, here on Tuesday.

According to reports, the daughter of a labourer quarrelled with her family after which she took poison. The girl was taken to a hospital where she breathed her last.
