SARGODHA, Dec 9: More than 500 recruits admitted to the Police Training School here have been asked to leave the school for one week due to the outbreak of a viral infection which had reportedly infected around 100 recruits since Sunday.
The recruits reported high fever with pain in the stomach. Some of them were seen vomiting as well. Six of them were taken to the DHQ Hospital where laboratory tests were conducted on them. The principal ordered closure of the school on the advice of DHQ medical superintendent and chief physician Dr Nasrullah Khan.
Dr Khan told this scribe that the virus infected throat of the victim causing high fever.
He said such viral infection could be termed a community based disease as it caused sickness among those living close to each other but could not affect the public at large. But, the common people should avoid interaction with infected people, he added.
Some of the recruits who fell sick said they felt pain in the throat and then in the stomach. Some of them started vomiting which caused weakness.
Some of them also complained about unhygienic condition of kitchen.
CRACKDOWN: Police arrested on Tuesday 57 employees of video centres besides seizing a huge quantity of CDs and video films on the charge of spreading pornography.
Police launched a crackdown against video centres on Monday night and arrested more than 100 people. But, it is alleged that police set free owners of video centres after accepting huge bribe from them.
The drive was launched by the city sub-division comprising five police stations — City, Factory area, urban area, Satellite Town and Cantonment.
