KARACHI: Rs33 million for beach rehabilitation approved


KARACHI, Dec 9: The Ministry of Science and Technology has approved Rs33 million for a study and rehabilitation of the area affected by the oil spill at the Clifton beach.

An official source told APP here on Tuesday that the fund would be utilized jointly by the Pakistan Council for Science and Industrial Research (PCSIR), National Institute of Oceanography (NIO) and the Centre of Molecular Genetics of the University of Karachi.

The ministry has given the task to the three organizations to propose some measures to counter the damage caused by the oil spill.

The PCSIR will determine concentrate levels of various components of oil in water, sediment and tissue samples of living beings of the sea in the affected area. An environmental impact assessment will also be carried out.
