KARACHI, Dec 9: As many as 500 teachers would be sent abroad for further training.

This was announced by Sindh Education Minister Irfanullah Khan Marwat on Tuesday, while speaking at an inaugural ceremony of students’ week at the PECHS Government Girls College.

The teachers would be sent to the United States, Britain and Indonesia for training, and the first batch of lecturers in this connection would leave for the US on Jan 11, 2004, Mr Marwat said.

He said that for the promotion of education, the government had enhanced the education budget by 23 per cent, which he claimed was the highest allocation so far.

He also pointed out that the shortage of lecturers would be overcome by the end of next month.

It was also announced that the written test for the lecturers would be conducted on Dec 14.

The minister announced that the four additional rooms would be constructed at the PECHS College for BCom classes and two coasters would also be given for the students. He also gave away prizes to those students, who secured positions in the examinations as well as in the extra-curricular activities.—APP
